Raising Diabetes Awareness

Something has got to change.  We have got to get some sort of policy change to state if any child/teenager/adult/elderly patient is showing any signs of Diabetes, they need to be checking each and EVERY one of them.  It literally takes 5 seconds.  If your doctor refuses to check then go to a drug store and buy a blood glucose meter and a bottle of test strips yourself.  Over the counter you can find some very affordable meters, like the Reli On brand from Wal Mart.

PLEASE PLEASE commit these things to your memory and share this poster on your Facebook page/group/office bulletin board/anywhere!

You can find this poster here: http://www.testonedrop.org/

Children have got to stop dying from being in DKA, it is so very preventable if it would just get caught sooner.

If you are on facebook and want to help get something done to make a change join: UP Rising Against DKA https://www.facebook.com/groups/1594396390844304/

Group Description:
There is a growing angst within the world-wide Type 1 Diabetes community to stop delayed and missed diagnoses of T1D, which often leads to diabetic ketoacidosis. In this spirit, UP Rising Against DKA has been created. "UP Rising Against DKA" stands for United Parents Rising Against Diabetic Ketoacidosis. Let's UNITE against the lack of education and complacency that allows unnecessary life-threatening illnesses, permanent handicaps, and even deaths to continue.

DKA defined:
Diabetic ketoacidosis is a serious complication of diabetes that occurs when your body produces high levels of blood acids called ketones.

Diabetic ketoacidosis develops when your body is unable to produce enough insulin. Insulin normally plays a key role in helping sugar (glucose) — a major source of energy for your muscles and other tissues — enter your cells. Without enough insulin, your body begins to break down fat as an alternate fuel. This process produces a buildup of toxic acids in the bloodstream called ketones, eventually leading to diabetic ketoacidosis if untreated.

If you have diabetes or you're at risk of diabetes, learn the warning signs of diabetic ketoacidosis — and know when to seek emergency care.

The best lchf french "toast" EVER!

http://uplateanyway.com/keto/french-toast/

You have got to try this if you miss french toast.  I melt the butter first, i think it gives a better result and then fry it on the stove with butter.

Ingredients
  1. 3 tbsp plus 1 heaping tsp almond flour
  2. 2 tsp coconut flour
  3. 1/4 tsp baking powder
  4. 1/2 tsp cinnamon (add half to batter and use the other half on top)
  5. 3 tbsp sugar free maple syrup
  6. 1 tsp vanilla extract
  7. 1 tbsp butter
  8. 1 egg
Instructions
  1. Crack egg into coffee mug, mix in all ingredients EXCEPT for the butter.
  2. When the batter is smooth and completely mixed, then add your tablespoon of butter right into the center. No need to mix it in or melt it first.
  3. Microwave for 1 to 2 minutes, depending on your microwave strength. When it's done it should still be soft and spongy.
  4. Carefully slice it in half and stick the two halves in the toaster (I pan fry this after microwaving. Our toaster tends to trap this in the slots and makes it difficult to get out after toasting.)
  5. Top with more butter, cinnamon, sweetener or sugar free pancake syrup.

Dexcom's payment assistance program

I reordered a Dexcom transmitter last Friday because mine is currently 10 months old and it has been acting kind of wierd lately, going out of range a lot more.  So I wanted to get it approved with my insurance and ordered and all that junk.

They are now offering a 3 month payment plan for any order over $200.00, which is AWESOME since I complained about it every time I had to reorder.  So I am making three payments of 175, one comes out at time of order and the next two in the the proceeding two months. Obviously it is a lot easier to make three payments instead of scraping up 525.00 in one shot.  With T1D you all know just how hard that is to do.

You have to sign a payment contract and give them your credit card information.

I just called to verify what qualifies for the payment plan and they told me any order over $200.00 qualifies for the 3 month payment plan!  How awesome is that?  So if you order three months of sensors and they cost you lets just say 300.00 you can pay 100.00 each month for three months!

Easy 2-1-1 eggs

For a breakfast that will fill you up and keep you full. Also shared with me in a lchf group.

2 eggs
1oz cream cheese
1 oz shredded cheddar cheese
I also add 1-2 T heavy whipping cream

Soften cream cheese in micro first. Then add all other ingredients ( you can throw in season salt and bacon to make it extra yummy) mix it together, micro for one min, take out stir, micro for another min take out and see if its done to your liking. Keep microwaving it until its done to your preference.

My husband and I eat this every morning. Keeps me full for many hours.
I also add heavy whipping cream to my coffee and it helps me stay full from the fat content. No caeb cravings in the mornings for me anymore!!!  Sugar free torani syrups are the other substitute I use for coffee creamer flavoring.

My new favorite dessert

This was shared in a lchf group I am in and you guys have to try it.

1 cup heavy whipping cream
2 Tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
3 Tablespoons suxgar subsititue, I used stevia, they say to use the confectioners version but I dont have any
1 teaspoon vanilla

Wisk it until its fluffy and creamy and wonderful. I have mine in fridge getting cooler. Store in fridge. You can add sugar free chocolate chips too and maybe even add a sugar free flavor of your choice instead of cocoa powder.

Dexcom Diabetic Warriors

So apparently wanting to have normal blood sugars is too controversial for some groups that are Dexcom CGM promoters and have started kicking out and banning group members.
I couldnt take it anymore, so I made another Diabetic Warrior group. Join if youd like, Id love to have those of you who are also on the path to normal blood sugars and dont boast about your terrible graph.

In just two days, two beautiful children have been lost to undiagnosed type 1 Diabetes.

In just two days the world lost two angels to undiagnosed Type 1 Diabetes.

Many people had been following Kycie's story on Kisses for Kycie on Facebook.  On July 11th they posted that she had lost her battle after fighting back so hard after having a serious brain injury as her brain herniated into her brain stem.  She fought back so hard and was able to relearn so many things only to have her life taken by a virus so very quickly, from what I am gathering online.

Three weeks ago today...

Three weeks ago today, my Grandmother passed away at age 83.  She was a large part of my life growing up and taught me many life lessons.  I learned from her that life can be hard and cruel but that you have to keep going on.  Her huband and my Grandpa passed away in 1987 and she continued to enjoy life for another 28 years.  Meeting many grandchildren and great grandchildren, including my Daughter.  My Grandfather also had type 1 Diabetes but he didn't get to take advantage of any of the tools we have today.  Not many people even checked their blood sugar back in 1987.  She helped keep him alive until he passed at an early age of 56 from heart disease complications partly brought on by Diabetes and smoking.  I didn't understand death back then and I spent many years angry that God took him from me.

LCHF I havent fallen off the wagon yet.

I am on my 10th week of eating low carb high/healthy fat and its been a bumpy ride to say the least.  I am still figuring out my blood sugar and how to manage it on this way of living.  I was having a bunch of lows at night, which I now corrected but me and night time lows do not fare well.  I EAT a ton of garbage when I am low, like oh maybe 4 glasses of milk, a juice box, some cereal (yeah I know terrible) and other things that are reserved for my 2.5 year old.  That pattern has finally been figured out for now.  I'm not going low much or if at all anymore for the most part, which is AHHHHMAZING for me.  Or I should say below 80 and if I hit 70 I eat half a glucose tablet and that brings me  up to 80-90 where I now feel OK.   For me to feel ok walking around at 90 is also AHHHHMAZING!
