Conquering life living with Type 1 Diabetes

Did you read this PBS article? What’s behind skyrocketing insulin prices?

Quote from the article:

"One analyst, meanwhile, contended that rising prices may not have any impact on patient outcomes.

“I don’t think you can draw a straight line from the rising cost of insulin to outcomes,” said David Kliff, who publishes Diabetic Investor. “Very few patients pay out of pocket for cost of insulin. So I don’t think prices truly impact the patient pocket book. There’s only a small percentage who don’t have insurance or enough insurance.”

Who is this analyst and what country did they come from?  Very few patients pay out of pocket for insulin?  Say WHHAAAAT?  Eli Lilly does NOT offer any assistance (https://www.pparx.org/sites/default/files/resources/lilly_pp-ap-us-0096_lilly_cares_application_final_populated_jan2106.pdf) for people WITH health insurance using Humalog and some people have INSANE high deductibles and copays for insulin.  Novolog DOES offer assistance (https://www.novolog.com/copay-register.html) to people WITH health insurance, why can't Lilly?  I am personally allergic to Novolog so I am stuck with Humalog.

What do you think about this PBS article?  Let me hear your thoughts.

  1. I left a comment on the article: "My insurance only covers part of my insulin prescription. The rest is on me to cover. For one vial of Levemir, I'm being charged $120! Apidra costs me $130! If you think the rising cost of insulin does not directly impact our pocketbooks, you are sorely mistaken! I need these medications to LIVE! Try putting yourself in our shoes before making such ridiculous assumptions."

I think the rising insulin costs are ridiculous. Sure, other diabetes supplies are getting cheaper, but not the life-saving ones. It's ridiculous.
